Hide PDF Watermarks with an Overlay

Cover fixed watermarks in PDFs (like "NotebookLM" or "Messari") by placing a custom overlay image where you need it. All processing happens in your browser—your files never leave your device.

When to Use This Tool

Use this when:
  • You have AI-generated PDF reports that always show a provider watermark (e.g., NotebookLM, Messari, or other tools) in the same location on every page
  • Traditional watermark removal fails because the watermark is baked into the page background or rasterized image layer
  • You want to visually hide a logo, label, or text mark without changing the rest of the PDF content
  • You need to cover a fixed label on only some pages (e.g., title page or summary pages) with a white bar or your own branding
  • You want a fully manual, WYSIWYG way to hide sensitive marks while keeping layout and text readable
  • You work with confidential documents and require a client-only, no-upload solution for legal or compliance reasons
Don't use this if:
  • You are not allowed to modify or hide the watermark due to copyright, license, or contractual obligations
  • You want to technically remove watermark objects from the PDF structure (this tool overlays an image, it does not edit internal PDF objects)
  • You need to process hundreds of PDFs in bulk (consider desktop automation or scripting instead)
  • You need perfect archival integrity where overlays must be fully reversible without any visual change
  • You want automatic detection of watermark areas without manual placement—use the standard PDF Remove Watermark tool first

How to Hide Watermarks with an Overlay

1

Drop your PDF file (up to ~100MB, limited by browser memory) or click to browse and select your file. The first page will be shown in a live preview.

2

Upload a simple overlay image (for example, a white or light rectangle, or your logo). Drag and resize the overlay rectangle on the preview until it fully covers the watermark on the current page.

3

Optionally click "Apply current overlay to all pages" if the watermark is in the same position on every page. Then click "Apply overlay and download" to get your updated PDF with the overlay applied to all selected pages.

Common Use Cases

Hide a persistent "Generated by NotebookLM" or "Powered by Messari" label on AI research PDFs you have the right to adapt

Cover a static logo or provider badge in the header or footer area of every page with a neutral white bar

Mask internal tags like "Internal Draft" or customer-specific IDs in exported PDF reports

Hide experimental or temporary labels on PDFs used for client-facing presentations while preserving the underlying charts and text

Overlay your own branding bar on top of a third-party label in a way that respects your licensing agreement

Visually cover a watermark that the automatic PDF Remove Watermark tool cannot fully detect or remove

Features

Manual, pixel-precise placement of an overlay image on any page via drag-and-resize editor
One-click "apply to all pages" for fixed-position watermarks across long AI-generated PDFs
Flexible overlay image: use white rectangles, blurred bars, or branded graphics (PNG or JPG)
Opacity control (10–100%) to fully block or subtly blend the overlay into the document
Live preview of each page using PDF.js so you always see exactly what will be covered
100% private—no file uploads, all processing happens in your browser using PDF.js and pdf-lib
Works alongside the standard PDF Remove Watermark tool for cases where automatic removal fails

Limitations & Constraints

This tool visually hides watermarks by drawing an image on top—it does NOT remove underlying watermark objects from the PDF file structure

Overlays become part of the new PDF rendering layer, so downstream viewers will see the overlay image instead of the original watermark

Precise placement depends on your manual alignment—small misalignments may leave parts of the watermark visible

Very large PDFs or extremely high-resolution pages may render slowly in your browser and use significant memory

Overlay image quality and color must be chosen carefully to avoid covering important content near the watermark area

Legal constraints still apply: you must have rights to modify and distribute the resulting PDFs

Troubleshooting

Overlay does not perfectly cover the watermark

Solution: Zoom your browser in and carefully drag the overlay edges using the resize handle until the watermark is fully hidden. If the watermark shifts slightly between pages, avoid applying the same overlay to all pages and instead adjust per page where necessary.

Resulting PDF looks blurry or low-resolution

Solution: Very large PDFs may be downscaled during rendering. Try re-exporting the source PDF at higher resolution if possible, or keep overlays slightly larger than the watermark area to minimize visible edges.

Browser becomes slow or unresponsive with large files

Solution: Close other tabs and try a smaller file, or split the PDF using the PDF Split tool and apply overlays in smaller batches. Very large PDFs may exceed browser memory limits.

Legal concerns about removing or hiding watermarks

Solution: Only use this tool on documents you own or have explicit rights to modify. If the watermark is required for attribution or license compliance, do not remove or hide it. When in doubt, consult legal counsel or your compliance team.
